Local Focus A Tātau Kōrero: Tahua Pihema

Born and bred into kapa haka, Tahua’s passion for her people and haka is evident. A student at Victoria University, Tahua continues to come home regularly to reconnect with her whānau, hapū and iwi and be part of her whānau haka club, Waihīrere. While at secondary school Tahua led an initiative to work with teachers and the Ministry of Education to teach the NZ War stories of this region in the curriculum and she continues to work diligently with others on this project. At 18 years old, Tahua made the decision to get a moko kauae. Her decision to wear the moko kauae was a journey of connection and love and she shares this with us.
